Simply Neutrals # 4 - Some Furry Friends

The Spring school holidays have flown past in a blur of visitors, taxi-driving children to fun activities, and gardening. And before I knew it, it was time for the next Simply Neutrals Party #4.

I thought it would be nice to share some of the furry friends we have looked after for the RSPCA. Here's Nova:

Here's Ebony asleep:

And awake...

The first two cats we looked after became our forever cats... Willow (grey) and Gypsy (ginger). We took in Willow forst, and she was very timid, having been mistreated and abandoned as a kitten. She still hides under the couch when visitors come. Then we minded Gypsy, who was a lovable and bold little hussy. We found that Willow relaxed and felt more comfortable with Gypsy around so we adopted them both. They are still with us after several happy years.

All the others also found forever homes.

We minded quite a few more cats, but Willow became upset with every new cat so we stopped taking in temporary orphans.

Now a couple of bears I made a few weeks ago. I dyed the dress with Parisian essence to age it and make it a more subtle hue. (Thanks, Suzy for that great tip!)

And lastly, a lovely rose fabric in muted tones which covers my lounge. My children think I have a grandmother's taste in home furnishings... and I do!

Vintage style linen roses

It's been hot here today - 35 degrees Celcius - and the same is predicted for tomorrow. A swim in the ocean will help us cool down, I'm sure. Ocean temperatures are still lagging behind by a season and it will be brisk! Have a lovely week of creating, playing and photographing.

Don't forget to hop over to Wen's blog at AppleApricot to see more lovely neutrals and join the party. I think I'm last again!

Bye for now,

Jesse

    1. Hello Dorthe, Thanks for your friendly comment. Yes, bears are quite a lot of work, but worth it. I love working with mohair, the personality just comes out better.
      hugs,

      Jesse

  2. Hi Jesse. I love your kitties. We have two ourselves and adore them. Your bear is so charming...you are so talented in everything you do. You are warm and we are saturated in this neck of the woods not enjoying our tenth straight day of rain. We were supposed to go to the mountains the other day, but it's teaming up there too. I did get to have some creative time, though! Hugs, Sue

    1. Hi Sue, thank you for stopping by and leaving your lovely comment. I love any weather - rainy days are great for arty creative time. But my daughter wants a swim, and so do I after mulching my garden all morning!

  3. Oh you were so kind to take in and care for those RSPCA cats Jesse and to permanently home Willow and Ginger.
They are gorgeous and have become so much part of your family over the years. You bears are simply divine. I used to make them too - just love the mohair ones. Do they have names? I bet they look just the part in your creative space.
They are such a joy to make giving them characters with their eyes and noses. Emailing soon!
    Hugs to you,
    Suzy

    1. Hello Suzy, I don't remember seeing any bears at your place - but then I was probably stunned at looking at everything else so beautiful in your house! You are so talented, it doesn't surprise me that you have made bears too! i love the mohair the best too. I used to buy old coats from op shops and use those, and that works quite well, but not as good as mohair. I have a house full of bears and a few dolls I have made over the years.

  4. Adorable beautiful old bears... and so cute lovely cats!
I have a black one, came as a homeless and remained very shy and distrustful until today. Only to me he joined...I love him.
    Have a nice new week

    1. Hi Mascha,
A fellow cat-lover! It's sad that animals seem to remain affected psychologically like humans do when they are mistreated. We love our cats, but it's hard to stop them from catching birds.

  6. Very beautiful kittens! How much fun they must be~ (I am highly allergic so I can't have one: ]
I love the bears! You have inspired me to be on the look out for 'bear' dresses! As I have many stuffed animals~ I want to mention how beautiful your rose fabric is! Gorgeous vintage style and colors. Your "grandmother" taste is very refined! : ) Thanks for the visit Jesse~

    1. Hello Karen, Yes, it is fun with two cats, but I know what you go through with allergies. I try to keep the house really clean, but two of my kids get rashes sometimes from holding the cats. They adore them though, and we wouldn't be without them.

I think when this lounge is worn out I shall salvage the fabric!
      Thanks for stopping by.

  7. Nothing wrong with grandma's furniture, it's really trendy at the moment to adopt the grannie style, lol :) But dear Jesse, did you make these bears yourself?????????????????? Goodness me, wow, I'm in awe! And how cute are the kitties, xxx to them! Sending you hugs xx

    1. Greetings Wen,
Thanks for coming to check out my almost-too-late-offerings for your Simply Neutrals party. I've made many bears over the years, and it's taken a long time to get the joints nice and firm and the faces to come out the way I like them. I hadn't made any since my kids were young, but I found some mohair put away and thought I'd use it. I have a few more cut out ready to make, but life gets in the way of my creating time. I do binges, then rush around catching up on everything else.
