Vintage Book Cover Collages

Hello friends,

A few weeks ago I posted this pair of vintage book cover collages I made recently  - but they were shown in low saturation so I could post in Simply Neutrals Tuesday.  Cheating, really, I guess, but they did look interesting in those muted shades. Today I'm showing you their real colours...

I loved the texture of the old spine, so I used it on one side of the tree, which was too beautiful to cover. This moth is exquisite. I intensified the colours in photoshop. It looks real!

Pink seam binding ribbon was used for the hanger, after hammering holes at the top using a hole punch.

I found the skeleton leaf on a walk through the bush near our home.

The picture was printed on a canvas-textured paper.

What serendipity! The reddish stain on the lace matched the handmade paper framing it.

Since these collages recycle old lace scraps and book covers, I am joining the Share it One More Time Party

Happy creating!

Jesse

    1. Thanks, Dorthe. It was simple to make these, and quick, because there wasn't much space and they just looked finished.
      See you soon for SNT

  5. I really don't think you cheated, Jesse. To me the image you posted today looks like an example of a Neutral, too. Just a different tone. I love your book covers. I didn't realize until reading this post that you were using only the covers from books, not the whole book. That seems a lot easier! I tho't that you were working on the inside pages, too!

I have to find some old books that I don't mind taking the covers off from so I can experiment to see if I can do something like you've done. I certainly have enough old lace and fabric around. Paper, too!

Looking forward to your next project.

    1. Hello Naomi, Thanks for stopping by to comment. I would love to do a whole book, but I am not in that headspace at the moment for a long project. Sometimes I like to do small projects I can finish in a session, as I have so many balls in the air with a home business, kids and garden. These often become gifts for friends and family or I hang them around the house. I love the texture of old book covers, and it's good stiff cardboard. I only tear up books that are not valuable - garage sale specials.
      Happy creating!
