I've chosen a hat theme. Part of my time has been spent at our local museum photographing their old hats for a hat exhibition. I prepared a few of the best photos for a poster... Sorry if some are not quite neutrals, but I thought the muted old shades would fit the theme.
There were a few volunteers helping to set them up -none of us are professionals, so we tried out various ideas and had some fun. It's like playing 'house' as kids! Here are the final posters:
Here's a photo I took of my daughter Roisin (which is Irish for 'little rose') years ago wearing my favourite of her hats. Sadly, she threw it out of the pram and I didn't notice.
Next, a cabinet card draped in lace...
Lastly, a little Christmas fairy I made from a tutorial from Dawn Edmonson of The Feathered Nest.

Thanks, Karen. Yes, our hat exhibition has been very successful. I took my Mum to see it on Wednesday. She had a look at the Simply Neutrals blog party too and said they were all beautiful. You enjoy your week, too :)

ReplyDeleteHi Sue, Roisin is now 10 going on 16, and hasn't worn a pretty dress since she was three! She's a jeans- and-tights girl who loves to rollerskate and handstand around the house! She's still gorgeous but hates being in photos!

Dear Jesse, your cabinet card is so beautiful, love the big brooch , and the wonderful faity from Dawn`s tutorial, I bought that tutorial, too, and placed my fairy into a glass dome on top of an old sugar bowl :-) . The sweetest photo of your daughter , sorry you did not find her hat again, but the ones here, in the posters are so wonderful, love the ones sitting all on top of the womens heads !!

Hello, Dorthe, would you believe, the brooch is actually a gorgeous belt buckle which I salvaged from an old dress. I love it, too. Dawn's fairy is so sweet, she really got me going on fairy children. I bet there are so many out there in everyone's craft rooms! Have lovely week.

Roison looks so very beautiful in her hat too with those gorgeous blue eyes.
A prettily arranged cabinet card with the old lace draped around and the fairy angel are both so sweet.

DeleteI must ring you! My Mum is here at the moment, and she hasn't left her home town for 5 years due to a fear of driving or being driven. I have been trying to be the perfect chauffeur at slow speeds - very hard!!!
I've been showing my Mum our lovely Simply Neutrals blogposts and your card and wallhanging and she loves it all. Wen's parties have been a great inspiration for me. I absolutely love your wallhanging with the two girls photographed by Margaret Cameron - I think it's my favourite of yours!
We had a band practice in Ulladulla yesterday as two of our members recently moved there. We are getting ready to play at the National folk Festival in Canberra at Easter. Mum enjoyed hearing us, then we had a look in a couple of op shops (in the rain!) before coming home (slowly!).

I've had my mum for a week's lovely visit, and now the car is playing up - an intermittent electrical fault which can happen anywhere and then when the repairman comes it works fine! I'm driving a timebomb! And desperately trying to find a new (second-hand) car to replace it... Luckily I had a nice friend who lent me her car to take my Mum home (a 5 hour trip) and we poked our noses into a couple of op shops.
